In this post we would like to discuss our findings during our attempt to increase our sales online.  So far no luck, but we’ve just started and thats half the battle!  Over time we will go over various marketing methodologies which work and those which do not.

Hopefully this information can save many of you lots of money and time during your attempts to market your website online.

It seems that online a large deal is something over the price of $99.  Small deals are usually $2-$10 and mid-range deals are under $70.  Point is that anything above this requires a different form of marketing online as we are starting to learn ourselves through trial and error and decent money invested.

Here below is our real life experience of our results (Now if you go and check out our website http://www.cheapest-website.com you will realize that it is very well done from a marketing perspective, there is something for everyone, from free to our full package at $499 which in itself is a steal of a deal), however after spending a good $400-$600 USD we gathered our results from the past 3-4 weeks and have them here below for those who are trying things out:

THESE REVIEWS ARE BASED ON RESULTS ONLY (Customer service may have been great and exceptional with many of the sellers, however we created these review based solely on conversions which in our case meant either users came online and signed up to our mailing list (FREE), signed up for our 30 day trial ($99) or purchased the full website package ($499).

fusionmails.com – This is incentive based traffic.  Users have an incentive of earning money for clicking on a link and visiting your website.  After testing this out, we did not get any sales, nor did we get very much activity on our website, users just waited the 10-30 seconds to get their credit and closed the window it seems.  The website owner was very kind and did help us out, however this type of traffic did not work for our business and it seems that it only might work for marketers selling marketing items.  OUR COST: $5.85 – 1000+ Users to our website

fusionmails.com FINAL REVIEW BY US:
Incentive Based: YES
Users Convert: NO (Rare Conversions)
Approximate Cost: $5 / 1000+ Users Sent, both worldwide and targeted
Ultimate Rating (Based On Results): 0/10
Quick Notes: Real users, however not really buyers per say

adTactics.com – This is another incentive based program, however it is done via email and we noticed a better response in users staying on our website longer, however once again it is a point system and most users are there to collect points to blast out their emails.  For every view, a person gets points to blast out similar emails to the same group of people so its a lot of internal blasting around to each other of emails.  We have signed up to the Partner membership which gives us near top status and allows us to send many mails to the list and even try banner ads.  The banner ads seem to give some form of better response, however it seems that we still did not see any conversions, not even any mailing list sign ups.

adtactics.com FINAL REVIEW BY US:
Incentive Based: YES
Users Convert: NO (Possible Conversions, however we have yet to see anything)
Approximate Cost: $10-20 / month to email over 11,000 members
Ultimate Rating (Based On Results): 0/10
Quick Notes: Real users, possible buyers but we did not get any results

Clickation.com - This was a purchase off of eBay for $7.50 and we purchased 15 guaranteed signups.  THIS REALLY GOT US SIGN UPS!  However it is still incentive based, which means yayy we get users who are now on our mailing list, but we dont know if they are that interested in the services we sell per se.  Point is that this worked for us to get signups, however its not the best way for traffic as it really isn’t a way to get users who are targeted to your offerings.

clickation.com FINAL REVIEW BY US:
Incentive Based: YES
Users Convert: YES
Approximate Cost: $8 / 15 Guaranteed Signups
Ultimate Rating (Based On Results): 5/10
Quick Notes: Real users, conversions, however due to being an incentive based program, conversions dont seem like possible buyers and hence the rating being low.  You WILL get signups, but it wont really feel like real potential customers.

ULTIMATE LESSON

The above was just 3 of the 16 different traffic/marketing websites we tried.

We went from trying out traffic searches, to targeted Google Adwords Campaigns.  After spending between $400-$600 we have come to the conclusion that the long and more challenging path (Writing blogs, articles, forum posts, word of mouth, physical marketing, consistent marketing, backlinks, link exchanges, posting to craigslist, kijiji, etc.) are the way to go and will require a lot of time, but in the end we will see the real proper results of more targeted traffic who are really interested and not based on us paying for it specifically.

Hence why the world keeps talking about SEO because that is what WORKS.  Search Engine Optimization and natural progression is what will get you to that next level ALONG with doing the above to just build awareness and gain on your Alexa rankings.  A mix of the two should yeild the best results as traffic and genuine leads who are looking for your product/service is the only way to market and make money.

There seems to be no real EASY way out of this one.  We will continue to post our findings!
